Bean sauce, also known as taotjo, is made from fermented soybeans.Cooked soybeans are mixed with water, salt and a little wheat flour to ferment in pots in the sun.The taste is nice and salty.Sometimes the sauce is with pieces or whole soy beans, sometimes very finely ground.
Bean sauce is used as seasoning: as a marinade, but also for stir-fries.Because of the intense taste of the soya beans, it is advisable not to use too much of it.
